Process Paper
Holocaust; before Concentration Camps
I have been raised Jewish for my whole life, so the Holocaust was not an unknown subject for me. I chose this for my topic, because I learned much about it in religious school, and my Grandma’s very close friend experienced some of this first hand. His rights, as a young citizen of Poland were taken away by the Nazis who did not fulfill their responsibility as the leaders of Germany and controllers of a powerful force, and because many gentiles did not stand up to those being persecuted.
First I used books in our school library to get background information and some images. I used this information to think of questions to ask during the interviews I conducted. Between my teacher, my grandma, her friend, and the staff and guests at the Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education I gathered the information needed for my project. I think the best research I did was the interviews at the Holocaust Center, especially with Dr. Al Miller. This is because I got to ask specific questions pertinent to my project, and listen to a first hand experience.
The way I chose to present my final product is a website. This is because I wanted to include some videos online, pictures and interviews of the people whom I interviewed because the videos and or quotes of the people with first hand experiences would people an actual insight into what these people went through as children or young adults.
My topic relates to “Rights and Responsibilities”, because many people’s rights, as human beings living in European countries were taken away by the Nazis who did not fulfill their responsibility as the leaders of Germany and controllers of a powerful force and because many gentiles did not stand up for the Jews and protect them. Although this abuse that lasted for only around 12 years, it still has an impact on our lives today. For one, there are still people alive today who experienced these horrifying chain of events first hand. These people live with the memories some even suffer from trauma because of it. Another effect is our constant effort not to let something like the Holocaust happen again. This is supported my many people who are still able to tell us their experiences and stories about these events.
