Jewish immigration in the 20th century was fueled by the Holocaust, which destroyed most of the European Jewish community. The migration made the United States the home of the largest Jewish population in the world.

When treatment was getting worse and worse in Germany, many people fled to other countries with their families in search of less persecution and a better life. Although many were not able to after their passports and other documents were taken away, and emigration was made significantly harder, some families who took initiative, or were extremely lucky, were able to successfully immigrate into a different country and start a new life there.
