"One of my other memories is the boycott of April 1933, where our show windows were plastered with 'Jew' 'Jew' 'DON'T GO TO THE JEW!'"
- Hanne Hirsch Liebmann
On April 1st 1933, the Boycott of Jewish shops and businesses first took place. Nazi soldiers stood menacingly in front of Jewish-owned shops. The six-pointed Star of David was painted in yellow and black across thousands of doors and windows. Signs were posted saying "Don't Buy from Jews, buy German goods." These signs and soldiers majorly decreased customers, taking away the shop owners right to a livelihood, and possible jeopardize the lives of the owners family.
"Evening schools have been established for housewives to "enlighten" them as to where to buy and why not to buy from Jews. Banners are strung across streets and posters are pasted on walls to warn against buying in Jewish shops."
