"All of a sudden, these people came around the corner screaming anti-Semitic slogans. A boy I had been in kindergarten with was shooting at me with a slingshot...Furniture started flying through the windows..."

On the night of November 9, 1938, because of the assassination of Nazi official Ernst Vom Rath by a Polish Jew, many citizens of Germany formed violent mobs, encouraged by Nazi officials, destroyed many Jewish homes, shops, and synagogues. These people destroyed the windows of many Jewish shops and homes, broke entries, destroyed furniture inside the house, and destroyed these Jews' right to private property and for many a livelihood. This night was named "Kristallnacht" after the shattered glass from the many broken windows on the street.
